Battery Collection:

The Marshall County Landfill worked with multiple businesses to create drop-off locations for residents to drop off all their batteries.   Alkaline batteries are accepted as well as rechargeable, lithium-ion, and button batteries.  They are all sorted, secured, and shipped off for recycling.   This program has led to an increase in batteries being collected and will prevent possible landfill fires due to improperly disposed of batteries.   Batteries can be dropped off for free at the Landfill, Thompson True Value, The Willows, The Embers, and Glenwood Place.

E-waste Recycling:

The Marshall County Landfill secured a grant with the Iowa DNR to build a site to collect E-waste.  As soon as the building is complete the landfill will be able to collect the following items for recycling and limit these items from going into the landfill.

  • Tv’s
  • Computers
  • Printer/Fax/copy machines
  • CD/DVD/Blu ray players
  • Stereo equipment

HHM COLLECTION:

The Marshall County Landfill collects household hazardous materials by appointment and works in collaboration with local towns to provide one-day collection events in the area.

The city of Marshalltown will be holding this event in May 2024.
